Mini escape to Wigan

As Wigan is only a short hop away by train, and we had heard good things about a real ale bar there, we decided to give it a whirl and were there in about half an hour, thanks to Northern and Virgin Trains.  Some of us could have got there free on the bus … but there you are. After a quick shop on the main street and a look at George Formby, we returned towards the station and onwards to Wigan Central, under the railway arches.  There was an excellent choice of cask and keg ales, an interesting railway theme and an extensive bottle library.  We passed a very happy hour or so there.  Highly recommended.
